History of the Bag Depot and a little information about our owners!
The Bag Depot was established in 2011 as a way to share our love of crafting with as
many people as we can. We make and sell all types of handmade tote bags, one of a
kind handbags, messenger and flap bags, and so much more.
Our handmade tote bag and purse company was started from a sheer love of material, design, and quilting!
Janice started crocheting and sewing when she was eight years old. As she grew up watching her mother sew and crochet, she began to develop a love for the same kinds of crafts. After sewing for her own young children, she crocheted lots of baby blankets and dolls as gifts. This love of sewing and crocheting led to plastic canvas work and then to quilting. Janice started making handmade purses and totes for the bazaar at her church several years ago. After designing and making items for family and friends, she decided to expand into a full fledged business!
Lesley has been around arts and crafts her whole life, learning to crochet and plastic canvas work as a small girl. She started sewing in her late teens beginning with Home Economics class, and then slowly developed her skills over the years. Today, Lesley creates complex costumes of her own design, recreates costumes for herself from current pop culture sources, as well as drawing and painting, machine embroidery, crochet, and more. Lesley joined Janice at the Bag Depot in 2012, helping with the bag designs and patterns, as well as doing the machine embroidery items.
At present, Janice and Lesley have over 200 items in their store, and are expanding their designs and repertoire with new items, fabrics and patterns. Janice and Lesley hope to continue expanding their current business! The plan is to own and operate their own quilt shop, that they've named "BeachComber Quilts and Fabrics". Look for this quilt shop to open by 2015!
Janice and Lesley are based in sunny San Diego, California. Their goals, as a unique craft maker and supplier, is to provide great service, quality products, and to be a "green" business. They use as many renewable materials in their product line as possible, and patronize other small business in search for new materials and inspirations.
